Position: Home Is Here Opportunity Program Participant
Cielo (they/she) emigrated from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca to the city of Chicago with her family before the age of two. Cielo is the first in their family to attend college and is currently pursuing microbiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a queer person of color, her interest resides in uplifting marginalized communities of the Southside of Chicago, specifically at-risk undocumented youth. Gaining knowledge and tools through the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Her passion for direct outreach was found while working at the family support network that assisted communities all through Illinois to find local resources.
