Irma (she/her) was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico and is the first in her family to graduate from college. After graduating, Irma decided to immigrate to the U.S. and studied English at North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) in Anaheim. Despite having earned a degree in marketing in Mexico, Irma had to start over from scratch. She is the kind of person who likes to learn something new every day and always tries to see the positive side of every situation, so after being a full-time mom for years, she decided to go back to school and graduate from high school in 2019. In 2022, she finished a certificate in management.

Irma is currently taking classes to prepare to transfer to Cypress College. With the experience she gained working in family resource centers, she realized that community work is one of her greatest passions. She especially enjoys working with the Latino immigrant community, and with single mothers. She knows from experience how difficult it is to leave everything behind and believes that when we support one another we can grow together. With the support of Immigrants Rising, especially with the Adult/Non-Traditional Pathways focus of the Higher Education Program, she hopes to make a difference in the lives of non-traditional adult students pursuing higher education.
