Melany (she/her/ella) is an immigrant from Mérida, Yucatán, brought to the United States as a baby and raised in Colorado. She proudly calls herself a Coloradan, an older sister, a first-generation college student, and a support system for my community.

Melany’s passion for education blossomed in high school when she joined the International Baccalaureate program and the National Honor Society. Now, as a public health major in her senior year at Metropolitan State University specializing in community health and education, Melany channels her skills at Convivir Colorado, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering undocumented, refugee, asylum-seeking, and first-generation youth through self-identity, storytelling, art, and mental health advocacy.

In her role as an executive assistant, program coordinator, and facilitator, Melany strives to create an inclusive space where all kids, regardless of background, feel connected and supported. Melany recharges by traveling, trying new restaurants, and working out because, according to her, “we can’t pour into others’ cups without filling our own.”
