Shirleen Achieng (she/her) is an undocumented Black Immigrant who serves as an organizer for the Haitian Bridge Alliance team. She helps coordinate and develop advocacy campaigns to raise awareness on the plight of Black Immigrants through community outreach and coalition building with partner organizations. Additionally, Shirleen helps manage and coordinate the Black Immigrants Bail Fund, which provides free assistance and relief to Black immigrants in pursuit of liberation. As a UC Irvine alumna, Shirleen has extensive background advocating for expansion of access to resources for undocumented students on her campus. She helped establish the DREAM Project Fellowship which allows undocumented students, specifically non-DACA students, gain professional development opportunities for a full academic year after being placed at a host site on campus. As someone impacted by the unjust immigration system, her passion for immigration justice continues to fuel her.
