Position: Home Is Here Opportunity Program Participant
Valery (she/her) immigrated from Mexico and has made Arizona her home. Passionate about supporting first-generation students, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds, Valery provides mentorship and resources, and advocates for policies that promote inclusivity and access. Currently a graduate student in public administration at Arizona State University, she has honed her skills in community outreach, policy advocacy, and coalition-building. Valery’s professional journey has taken her through several organizations, including Poder Latinx, St. Vincent de Paul, Action Nexus, and Aliento, where she has worked to advance solutions for homelessness, drive civic engagement, and foster inclusivity for undocumented communities. Her work is driven by a desire to create systemic change and support marginalized populations. Outside of her advocacy, Valery enjoys volunteering, attending local cultural events, and connecting with her community. She hopes to continue her work in public administration, focusing on policy innovation to address the needs of underserved communities.
