Denia Pérez, Esq. (she/her) first came into Immigrants Rising as a New American Scholar in 2010. She quickly volunteered for the Legal Services and Outreach Teams, helped plan social events, and participated in the Creative Writing Program. Denia also served as the Legal Services Coordinator for two years before moving to Connecticut to pursue her law degree. After receiving her JD, she became the first DACA beneficiary ever to become a licensed attorney in Connecticut. Denia completed a two-year IJC fellowship at Make the Road New York where she worked with their immigration team on providing legal services, supporting organizing campaigns, and doing state and federal advocacy. In the last year, Denia worked as a Policy Advisor for the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) and is now back with our team as our Legal Services Director. She is excited to bring all of her professional experience back to the legal services team in order to help it grow.
