Hans Miguel Esguerra
Position: Board Member
Hans Miguel Esguerra (he/him) currently works in sustainability for PwC US. He immigrated from the Philippines to the Bay Area at seven years old and at 16, he fell out of legal immigrant status and is a current DACA recipient. After high school, he helped run a mobile car detailing business to fund his part-time community college education. After his fourth year at Ohlone Community College, he was able to transfer to UC Santa Barbara due to the CA Dream Act and majored in Economics and Accounting. At UCSB, he worked at restaurants and served as a peer mentor for the university’s undocumented student services center facilitating career, legal, and financial seminars to assist his peers. He started his career at PwC auditing financial service companies for three years, specifically alternative investments and mutual funds, and obtained a CPA license. During his time in audit, Hans immersed himself in the firm’s non-profit relationships within the Bay Area, eventually leading the San Francisco office’s social impact council focused on partnering with organizations serving the local community. With his purpose and community in mind and the foresight of environmental, social and governance issues in corporate America, Hans transitioned into a national role where he currently helps guide the firm’s corporate sustainability practices for clients and communities alike. As a user of Immigrants Rising’s resources throughout his upbringing and navigation of being undocumented, Hans finds himself in a full circle moment to be able to serve on the board and contribute to the mission and vision of the organization.
