Tommy Statkiewicz, former fellow and staff member, describes what it felt like to get his papers after being undocumented for 25 years.
Tommy Statkiewicz first joined Immigrants Rising as a Legal Services Intern in 2014, providing immigration resources to undocumented young people nationwide. After a year, he became the Legal Services Coordinator for two years, during which he led and grew with two cohorts of brilliant community leaders. He just completed his first year at the University of Washington School of Law and is interning with the ACLU Policy Advocacy team in Seattle. Tommy can’t wait to receive his U.S. passport and law school degree in 2020 so that he may begin experiencing the world beyond borders with his best friend/wife.
