Carmen (she/her/ella) was born in Jalisco, Mexico and migrated to the U.S. at three. She grew up in East Los Angeles, where her educational trajectory began in community college due to its affordability for undocumented students. She holds a master’s in educational counseling from USC and a bachelor’s in psychology from UC Santa Cruz and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Education at Claremont Graduate University. Carmen is dedicated to transformative education and passionate about helping other undocumented students successfully navigate higher education.

As a DACAmented counselor and instructor, she offers comprehensive guidance to community college students, emphasizing academic planning and career exploration through an undocu-friendly lens. She also teaches college success strategies and career planning courses at multiple community colleges.

Carmen fortifies her UndocuJoy in her free time by hiking Southern California trails, dancing, reading, and spending quality time with her family.
