In Solidarity With Breonna Taylor and #BlackLivesMatter
At Immigrants Rising, we are heartbroken by the lack of justice for Black lives. Despite protests and other demonstrations of solidarity, anti-Black violence continues across the country.
Today’s injustice against Breonna Taylor is no exception. After six months of excruciating delays and derailment of justice, no member of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department was charged for the murder of Breonna Taylor in her sleep.
When will justice come for Black women?
Breonna Taylor. Layleen Polanco Xtravaganza. Rekiya Boyd. Nina Pop. Sandra Bland. We say their names over and over again, and demand that the arc of justice bend towards them. Not eventually. Not in the future. Justice must come now.
We are an immigrants rights organization pursuing justice for all marginalized communities—including Black people. We demand that this country treat Black people with dignity and respect.
And we commit to making sure that we—as individuals, as an organization, and as a community—do our part to recognize, reject, and reckon with the pervasive racism that continues to take Black lives.
Breonna Taylor was a friend, a daughter, a girlfriend, a cousin, and a valued member of her community. Her life mattered.
Without qualifications or preconditions, we say loud and clear: Black Lives Matter.
